It's a Masterpiece of Understatement

How do you waste a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon? By painting something other than the walls of a house for the first time in your adult life, of course. My son was using his paint set, and he had a spare canvas just sitting there when this idea popped into my head. No doubt because the reissue of 'Sisters' is approaching, and Monorail in Glasgow announced recently this special limited edition of the album that's exclusive to the shop. I quickly learned the tiny brushes I was using have a mind of their own. Many mistakes were made, but it was a great opportunity to forget my troubles and get lost in the tiny strokes. I enjoyed the experience so much I may give it another go and try to cut down on the slips of the brush.

Oh, fantastic, Brian! I love this. Agreed - there can be great therapy to be found in losing yourself in painting. Look forward to seeing more...!

There's always going to be special and classic about Sisters!. Way better painting than I would ever manage!

C, Probably should have kept it to myself. Having posted this now I feel sort of embarrassed, but I'll get over it. This canvas was probably too small for a novice like me to work with. The lettering was very difficult. Thanks for the encouragement though!

CC, Cath is perfect, but so is Everybody's Somebody's Fool and Some Sweet Day. The lads are looking good, eh? On top of the world, Feeling on top of the world, I bet.

Echorich, Too kind. Enjoying the mix tapes at your place.

Brian, I understand the feeling but there's no need. In my own work I'm always aware of all the mistakes I made, difficulties and problems I've had etc. - my own worst critic - but I forget that the viewer doesn't know any of that when they see the result! What really works in this painting is that it's fresh, vibrant and authentic - not just a replica.

Brian,

I agree with what "C." said and am glad you took time to make put up this post. I think the painting looks great! Frame-worthy and if one person visits (when that is a normal thing again) and says "what's that?" and you send them on a path to The Bluebells then it's bonus points. These days we all need something to sooth our mental health, and it's more than fine to admit it.

Great artwork Brian, good to re-discover those skills and painting /drawing are a really good way to lose oneself. I've doing a bit of drawing and found that my skills haven't developed at all since I did O level Art in 1986.

Howard and Adam, Thank you for the kind words, fellas. I got my C86 book about a week ago, but I won't be able to open it until school is out. One week to go!

I think you've got a very steady hand, Brian. I wouldn't have been that neat.

A bit of artwork often helps take your mind off things. I find myself turning to Sam's colouring books from time to time.

Hey Brian,

Glad you are doing something useful during this time unlike me.

Did you know about the Poems? Check my post today.

Just spotted this but very impressed Brian. As everyone else has said too, a great bit of therapy. I really need to drag myself away from the technology and try something similar. Perfect subject matter for you.
