Shame About the Rain Mix

Can it get any worse? I don't mean the weather. I mean that your host is blogging about the weather. Where do I go from here? Perhaps my bursitis or how the kids need to get off my lawn. In my neck of the woods, as the calendar turned to 2018, it started raining. It hasn't stopped. The forecast above was taken from my phone. Next week looks exactly like last week and the week before. For the most part, Seattle is like this from October to June, but this winter feels darker and wetter than the usual. Meanwhile, I'm beginning to believe in seasonal affective disorder.

I searched the word "rain" on my iTunes and came up with a whole mess of songs. Here are a few indie-pop favorites from yesteryear that will do nothing to get me out of this state. Yes, I'm wallowing in my misery. Actually, a couple of these would put a bounce in anyone's step... even with bursitis.

The Chesterf!elds - Shame About the Rain
The Loft - Why Does the Rain
The June Brides - In the Rain
The Suede Crocodiles - Stop the Rain
The Wolfhounds - Rain Stops Play
The Rain - Dry the Rain

In The Rain by The Dramatics (1971) is the greatest ever sad rain song and features the best ever rain effects!

If it's any consolation (probably not) Wales is wet, dark and cold this time of year too. I still haven't been able to get out and re-felt the shed roof following the recent storms!

Nothing wrong with blogging about the rain. I think the weather dictates a huge amount of my listening habits.

I Can't Stand The Rain, surely...?

I'll get my coat.

Raincoat, obviously.

I think Seattle must be a beautiful city - sopping wet 'n' all.

Rol beat me to the great Ann Peebles' "I Can't Stand the Rain", so off the top of my head I can only think of Dee Clark's oldie, "Raindrops" and, of course, The Beatles "Rain."

Great suggestions. Ann Peebles wasn’t on the iTunes, and that’s a darn shame. We have been known to call ourselves Raintown too, but Glasgow is the only Raintown in my book.

Rain by Martin Stephenson & The Daintees is quite lovely.

And I haven't heard The Suede Crocodiles in ages.....and I mean ages.......thirty years or so! A flatmate had this single and played it to death. So many happy memories are flooding back (pun intended). Thanks Brian.

Good to see The Rain in there. Tom Paine was my fave by them.

I always liked the Beta Band's 'Dry the Rain'.

Probably not a good time to mention the weather here in Santa Monica is in the sunny 70's, with a light breeze...

Never mind these rain songs, just send some of it over here, the nearest reservoir to us is empty, well, it's a puddle.

You will move to the sunshine George

What a selection Brian! Off the top of my head I can offer Lew Childre's 'It Don't Do Nothing But Rain', 'Didn't It Rain' by The Band, 'Rain a Fall' by Prince Far-I, 'A Little bit of Rain' by Fred Neil and, a favourite of my old Dad, 'Raining in My Heart' by Buddy Holly.
I feel a little guilty chiming in here actually, as right at this moment there isn't a cloud in the sky and the sun is absolutely blinding. Bloody chilly though.

Nice selection of rain related tracks Brian. One of the many resaons Glasgow has produced so many great bands is in no small part because of the rain. Something to do to escape the weather outside. We're not called Raintown for nothing.
