All Rise For 30-Year-Old Indie Anthem

Are you completely and utterly bored of this situation? You know, nothing changes, same old places. Well, never fear. Here come the saviors, and they come with electric guitars in their hearts! The Chesterf!elds are remembered for "Ask Johnny Dee," and there's certainly nothing wrong with that, one of my favorites, in fact, but you should give some of their other Subway singles a go, too. Songs like "Sweet Revenge" and today's pick are peppier than "Johnny Dee" and probably more closely represent the band's sound. You're gonna get hopped up on this sugar rush.

"Completely & Utterly"

The best music festival on this side of the Atlantic has done it again. In case you missed it, check out NYC Popfest's indie roster for 2016. For four days every May, legends that seemed so far away when I was a lad in rural Illinois mix it up with bands whose parents obviously have incredible record collections. This year, the Chesterf!elds are one of the acts coming stateside, and it doesn't get much cooler than that.

Good to hear The Chesterfields once again Brian. NYC Popfest has a damn good line-up this year. If you can, watch out for Chorusgirl a London based band playing noisy surf inspired indie music. I featured them a few month ago and I think I will do it these days again.

Looks like a festival with your name on it Brian. Are you going? I'd love to see The Chills again - it's been about 30 years!

Ooo. That's jaunty!

How is it I live a bus ride away, a music fan and I've never heard of the NYPopfest?? Good lawd I swear I live in an alternate universe sometimes. Now that looks like fun and if I had the whereabouts about me I'd be there. You guys are helping me get out of this bubble. Thanks.

Hi fellas. I have been trying to get to this festival for years. Many of my biggies have played it, including Allo Darlin', the School, Close Lobsters, Veronica Falls, Flatmates, Cats on Fire, the Monochrome Set, and I could go on and on. It's so far away from here, about 2,500 miles, but I have a talk with Mrs. LTL about it every year at this time. Something always seems to impede the journey, but this time I stand a chance. My wife has been traveling like mad for work (she is in Germany right now), and it looks as though she may have to be in New York at about the same time as the festival. If that turns out to be the case, the rest of us will meet her there that weekend and I will get to go to at least some of the shows. Fingers crossed. I would love to see the Chills too, Swede.

Time to blush. I have a dream of putting on something like this in Seattle someday. I already have the lineup swimming in my head.

Hope you make it Brian
If you can get to Glasgow for Big Country there is really no excuse for not popping over to NY!

IPSML, Thanks very much. I just found your Twitter account, and I love it. For the hell of it I tried to add it to my blog list, but it didn't work. I'll keep in touch anyway. Take care.

CC, You make it sound so easy. I wish it was. I'm making Mrs. LTL sound like the gatekeeper, but it's actually my children. Still, things are looking up for it to come together this year. The festival is a lot like The Glasgow Pop! South Weekender in your neck of the woods or Indietracks or Wales Goes Pop! We don't have too many great ones like NYC Popfest over here, especially on my side of the country.
