Loud yet pretty. Is there a tougher combination to pull off in all of pop, and who does it best? If Teenage Fanclub immediately started hoggin' your noggin, bully for you. That's where I would have gone too. After hearing this lot, however, perhaps next time the question is posed there might at least be a stutter.
Seattle's Supercrush are Aaron O'Neil and Mark Palm, and the duo have released four 7" singles since 2013. Eight songs in roughly five years, each in the economic two- to three-minute range, is far from prolific, but the fellas have been in other bands throughout the decade. Perhaps they are getting serious about making Supercrush more than just a side project because two of the four singles came out in 2018, and their entire discography plus two unreleased songs were collected recently on 'Never Let You Drift Away.' Could a long player be far away? After listening to this comp, you'll hope so.
A pal of mine nailed it with his assessment these sound like outtakes from the 'Thirteen' and 'Grand Prix' eras. In other words, a glorious racket. Give this one a spin. Then head over to Bandcamp to hand over your money.

That is brilliant Brian. I may have to invest in the back catalogue.
Hey Brian - Glad you featured Supercrush. I picked up the CD comp a month or two ago and it’s been in constant rotation in my car. Great stuff, albeit derivative of a lot of 90’s power pop but that’s the stuff I never tire of and they have the chops to pull it off!
In case you’re wondering, some records I’ve been spinning lately: Resonars ‘No Exit’, Stroppies “Whoosh”, Zebra Hunt ‘Trade Desire’ (another great Seattle band), The Boys with Perpetual Nervousness ‘Dead Calm’, Robert Forster Inferno and new single by Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever.
In the very near future my wife, two teenage boys and I will be vacationing in Pacific NW including Seattle, Portland and Oregon coast. Have any record store recommendations? Thanks. - Matt
McPop,
Good to hear from you, my man! I don't have the first two you mention, but I'm heavily into everything else you mentioned, especially Zebra Hunt and the Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness. I plan on featuring both of those in the next week or two.
I love Oregon and the coast. Along the 101, Bandon and Depoe Bay are our usual stomping grounds. Brookings is nice too. Following the Columbia River is a cool drive. Here are a few posts with Oregon photos from a few years back. More about music in the car than the places themselves, however...

As for the shops, as I mentioned the other day, Seattle's best shop is literally on the road to Portland as we speak. Should be open in two or three weeks. I also recommend one particular stall of a record market in Portland called Crossroads. Just go to the counter and say your into indie pop and post punk. Eric will show you the stall you're looking for. Make sure you get their new address. They were forced to move a couple of years ago. These clips will give you an idea of what to expect. Portland has several other stores, such as Jackpot and 2nd Ave., but they aren't as catered to our specific tastes. With Jigsaw gone, I would say in Seattle your best bets now are Silver Platters (the huge SoDo location) or Jive Time (small location in Fremont). They ain't Jigsaw but are solid.

Drop me an email if you need anything else. Would love to help. Probably easier than cramming into the comments.
Brian- Thanks for the quick and detailed response. Yeah, I’m definitely a fan of Jigsaw (online ordering) and was bummed to hear the store is moving from Seattle right before I go out there. Would’ve been great to actually visit the old brick and mortar. It seems doubtful he’ll have the new store up and going by the time we get to Portland but I’ll keep an eye out for it anyway.
Thanks for all the great links. I will take some time to read (or re-read) them and look at your photos. I think my wife made reservations at hotel near Silver Platters so will try to get there at least. And sounds like I should seek out that cool stall at Crossroads in Portland.
I’m hoping to go to Rolling Blackouts CF show in Seattle on next Thurs (the day after we arrive ) if I can convince my wife and/or kids to go with me. I may take you up on emailing if other questions arise.
Thanks again! Matt
Hey Matt. One more Seattle shop I should mention is Easy Street in West Seattle. Not all that far from SoDo Silver Platters.
Cool. Will try to check that one out too.
Thanks. -Matt
McPop,
I don't know if you will see this or not, but I just realized RVG is the opener for RBCF on Thursday. I recommend getting there early to try and catch them. If I can swing it, I may try to go as well.
Brian, thanks for the heads up. I’m still not sure if I’m going to make it to the show but hopeful.
- Matt
