If you're a regular reader, then you already know my infatuation with the School runs deep. 'Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything' was my No. 2 album of 2012, and I'm absolutely smitten by the Welsh band's brand of '60s and girl-group influences. Our first listen to a song from 'Wasting Away and Wondering,' the impending album out Sept. 4 via Elefant Records, was the single "All I Want From You Is Everything." You may recall the 7" came out a few months ago on beautiful white vinyl, but it's already sold out through the label (although I just checked, and you can still get it through Darla... hurry!). Our second listen to a song from the new album is a much easier (and cheaper!) endeavor. Elefant has just released "Do I Love You?" as a digital-only single... and it's a free download!! It's not your imagination. I have gone crazy with the exclamation points today. Sorry. Just excited.
"Do I Love You?" is described as "an upbeat Northern Soul-inspired track, a girl's response to the famous Frank Wilson song." If you're thinking you recently read about that song somewhere, perhaps one of your regular blog stops is Across the Kitchen Table. Drew spent much of the spring counting down his 50 favorite Northern Soul songs, and Wilson's 1965 hit "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)" made his top 10. High praise, indeed.

Motown is my favorite music. Hands down. So you can't lose with a Motown cover. Actually this song was recorded and released as a single by Chris Clark as well, so there is a girl version. (If I was tech-smart I would post…but it's available to hear on youtube, and snippet on iTunes….) "Love Gone Bad" is also a knock-out track by Chris Clark. But I do love me some Motown and girl grouping so I'm gonna check out The School. Thanks Bri for the lead!
Kevinpat, That Clark take is tremendous. As youtube is apt to do, I'm now lost in her records, including a really interesting version of Head to Toe, one of my favorite covers done by our very own Elvis Costello. If I don't get out of here soon I'm going to lose the entire day.
Drew, I hope some more readers make it over to your place to see that countdown. You really "schooled" me on many songs. As for the School, I think you will want to get both of their previous albums. I never tire of them.
I have a belter of a Chris Clark tuned lined up for a future posting. She was a mistress of Berry Gordy's. Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoyed putting the posts together.
EC helped me find so many great artists in my youth, from Sam and Dave to Smokey to Betty Everett and, yes, many country acts too. He certainly knew how to choose a cover, didn't he?
One more thing: To bring it back to the School, if youthful bands are discovering the likes of Frank Wilson, perhaps we don't need to weep quite so much for the future.
